The most daunting part of the group stage this year will, undoubtedly, be the "5 games in as many days" schedule that Team U.S.A. will face, perhaps even more than any actual opponents, but I'm sure that if the 2012 London Summer Olympics were any indication, the guys will overcome the inevitable fatigue associated with such a tight schedule to win group C!

the real-life "Hôtel de Glace" near Québec City

By now, you people most likely know about my borderline obsession with Disney's animated hit Frozen, but did you know that it's based on more than just the Scandinavian country of Norway? Yes, the creators of that international mega success traveled somewhere "closer to home" for inspiration for the brilliant landscapes we've all seen since then: the "Hôtel de Glace" (the Ice Hotel, for those of you unfortunate enough to not be somewhat fluent in French) near Québec City!

The video of the movie's directors' (Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee, not necessarily the songwriters, the Lopez twins) trip up there is above, but I don't think that video, complete with views of sculptures of all the characters carved into the walls of most of the buildings, does that part of Canada in general much justice when it comes to ice-cold winter temperatures:

Thing is, it's just plain cold up there in the winter, & staying inside 1 of quite a few igloo-type structures on the outskirts of 1 of North America's most European-style cities won't do anybody any favors, regardless of whether they've been up there once a year over the course of decades, or have yet to visit that part of the world!

Yes, there are a few hobbyist/toy websites out there that all but confirmed the return of those fighting warriors for sometime early next year, & as such, I'd like to present something else to you now:

Obviously, I understand the lyrics much more now than I did back then, which is perhaps why it pained me somewhat to have heard that again on my way into JFK Airport on the outskirts of N.Y.C. at the beginning of the summer... I may or may not post the entire "ride into JFK" playlist (at least what I remember hearing that morning...) some other time, but for now, I'll just leave that at that above video, considering the nostalgia overload I just experienced upon finding that after all these years!

You probably can't tell from those comparison/contrast pix, but obviously, Disney took some liberties with the animation, adding in the fountain, as well as (& this is why I mentioned that you probably can't tell all the differences here) that 1/2 spiral staircase on which, fittingly, the 2 sisters decide to "meet halfway", so to speak, instead of at the top of what I presume would be an even taller continuation of that spiral staircase...

Es probable que no se puede decir de aquellos pix comparación/contraste, pero obviamente, Disney tomó algunas libertades con la animación, añadiendo la fuente, así como (y es por eso que he mencionado que probablemente no puede decir todas las diferencias aquí) que media escalera de caracol en la que, como corresponde, las 2 hermanas deciden "reunirse a mitad de camino", por así decirlo, en lugar de en la parte superior de lo que supongo que sería un aún más alto continuación de esa escalera de caracol...

Champions Hockey League, day 1

For sake of brevity, since there were over a dozen games today (15, by my count), I'll just post the scores today, as well as tomorrow for game day 2, on which there will be "just" 7 games all involving the teams that didn't start today, from this 1st day of Champions Hockey League action!

Last, but definitely not least in a post all about an ice-based sport such as hockey, why not slip yet another (fitting) reference to the mega-success that Disney's Frozen has become in recent months?
